The value of Natural Seaweed Products in a Healthy Diet.
When we think of the sea, we think of health, invigoration, cleansing,
and rejuvenation. The feeling of being alive and yet peacefully calm. The
birthplace of life on Earth. Interestingly, sea vegetables (phytoplankton) can
transform your health, tapping into the ancestral and restorative source of all
life: the ocean. We
at Seaweed Ireland harvest our amazing seaweed products by hand in the Beara-Peninsula from the clear, unpolluted Atlantic Ocean
off the southwest coast of Ireland.

As many people and cultures have realized
over the centuries, vegetable products from the sea can help you to live both
better and longer. Our products won’t reverse the aging
process, but they can certainly help slow it down! Why? Because people have the potential to
grow old in good health.
Vegetables & Seaweed
The Japanese are among the greatest
consumers of seaweeds, and
many seaweed or sea vegetable varieties are best known by Japanese and Chinese
names.
Seaweed
Benefits, Health, and Aging
The Most
Important Food on Planet Earth, a Gift of the Sea
Land plants require a rigid structure to withstand
the constant pull of gravity, which
marine plants do not need. Instead,
they do need a flexible structure to accommodate the varying stresses as
result of currents
and wave motion. Seaweed and algae
have, unlike their
earthly cousins, no
roots, leaves, or vascular systems. They nourish themselves through osmosis,
attracting gases and nutrients dissolved in the watery environment that is
their home.
Because of the lack of a vascular system, the minerals/nutrients in
seaweeds are in colloidal form, able to retain their molecular identity in
liquid suspension. The
micronutrients and electrolytes in seaweed are bio available, in a form that human cells need to mesh with their metabolisms. Not surprising really,
because the composition of human blood plasma, or fluid surrounding cell
membranes, is similar to that of seawater.
Seaweeds do need light to grow.
Seaweed is a Photosynthetic organism, relying on a variety of pigments to capture light energy from the sun.

The deeper seaweed and algae live, the darker their color will become.
Long wavelengths (red and infrared) are absorbed in the top meters of water,
the very short wavelengths (ultraviolet) of the light can penetrate much deeper, and below 20 m it
is mainly blue-green. Differences in color mean different chemical compositions.
A seaweed or algae cell to be seen as a mini (micro) chemical
manufacturing plant, must
be able to produce and contain an amazing wealth of chemical components: more than 60
different sometimes highly complex and active marine substances. This is the only link we
know of able to realize
the organic substance synthesis from mineral elements. The major minerals are
instrumental in all kinds of life-sustaining activities in your body. Most
enzymatic functions depend on minute amounts of these bio-available trace
minerals.
Additionally, negatively charged minerals
can help increase the transport and bioavailability of other food nutrients and supplements as well. In addition, there is food
storage of starch and oil (bio-energy) and finally the poly-saccharide being
part of the cell
wall structure or fiber. Used in food structuring, cosmetics, health care, they also have many
industrial applications.
Polysaccharides possess reasonable physical
properties, can be modified and changed at room and body temperature, and the changes reversed using ionic,
electrolytic, or
chemically, enzymes and bacteria.
Most important and best known are;
Alginates, Cyclodextrins, Glycosaminoglycans, Inulins, Pullulans, Carrageenans,
Heparins, Konjacs,
Dextrans, Haaluronates, Locust, Tragacanth, Chitins & Chitosans,
beta-Glucans, Guarans, Pectins,
and Xanthan.
Polysaccharides possess reasonable physical properties, can be modified and changed at room & body temperature and the changes reversed using ionic, electrolytic or chemically, enzymes and bacteria. Their structure allows them to become water soluble or changing to not. Chemical reactions taking place at low (body) temperature of paramount importance. Table below to be used as indication.

Unbelievable, Seaweed contains neither roots nor blood vessels, feeding directly from the seawater through the plant (Cells) surface. It is able to taking full advantage of all the nutrients present in the sea without having to undergo any complex transformations.
Fibre or cell wall components.
Seaweed itself constitutes a source of dietary fiber that differs chemically and physically from those of
land plants and induces
different physiological effects. Referenced data indicates that algal dietary
fiber may show important functional activities, such as antioxidant,
anti-mutagen and anticoagulant effect, anti-tumor activity, and an important
role in the modification of lipid metabolism in the human body. An increase in their consumption
would elevate the foods offered
to the population.
Many physical ailments in both humans and
their companion animals can be regularly resolved with the simple addition of a
little seaweed to
their respective diets. However you have to act in the here and now to reap the
benefits later. People
consider themselves healthy unless they are ill or overweight, a kind of
borderline health. Optimum
health is more. For optimum health you need to achieve vitality, mental clarity, and improved digestion. Most of us need to consider
weight loss as a reduced risk for development of serious diseases.

Another important fact is that all life started in the oceans (water),
our common origin. Life’s watery beginning continues to be present in all
living processes, plant, fish, birds and animal alike. Seawater has almost the same proportion of
minerals as the human blood. Seaweed is a universal type of food and plants, fish,
birds, and animals
can benefit from its use.
Optimum health: studies show that the ideal
blood chemistry is slightly alkaline. Unfortunately, most people are overly
acidic due to poor diet. The good news is that you can achieve a more alkaline
pH using small amounts of seaweed. To determine your pH level, you can purchase a pH test at your
local health food store. The
ideal is a neutral score of 6.8 to 7.1. Anything below 7 is acidic,
above 7 alkaline. Use your saliva or urine: the test is relatively easy and
accurate.
Applications.
Applications include: alternative health, alternative medicine, health
foods, health products, dietary supplements, nutrition, minerals and vitamins,
pet food, cosmetics, bath, drinks, fertilizer, bio fuel, etc.
Early Medicine.
The “folk medicine” in coastal zones made extensive
use of a variety of seaweed species. Knowledge of the tonic and healing powers
of seaweed was passed down among coastal peoples from generation to generation because the
mineral content of sea vegetables is extraordinary, and is seen as the root of most of their
healing properties.
Seaweed has been part of the traditional diet of all coastal cultures,
like Japan and China, Hawaii, Wales, Scotland, Iceland, and Ireland. With advances in medicine
today, the reasons behind the success of some of these treatments are being elucidated, because
we now understand more of the nutritional and biochemical properties of
different seaweeds
or algae.
We all need a little bit of seaweed. Regular,
long-term dietary inclusion is reputed to help regulate metabolism and energy,
stimulate the immune system, soothe the digestive tract, cleanse the blood,
protect against bacterial and viral infection, maintain healthy cellular
function, and support the proper functioning of the endocrine glands, especially the thyroid.
Whole food; vegetables, fruit, spice and herbs.
For the first 8000 years of civilization,
humans relied on foods and herbs for medicine. It is only in the past 70 years that we have forgotten
our medicinal "roots" in favor of patent medicines. While
pharmaceuticals have their value, we should not forget the well-documented,
non-toxic and inexpensive healing properties of whole foods. |

Our seaweed products are harvested by hand
in the Beara Peninsula
from the clear, pristine
Atlantic Ocean off
Ireland’s southwest coast. They are completely natural and from a
renewable resource, without additives, free from toxins and environmentally
friendly. We are a small business, not a big corporation, and we first try everything we
produce ourselves.

Most of the seaweed is sold in dehydrated
form, as flakes, leaves, granules, sheets, or powder. Easy to use and to store. Use
for soups, salads, various dishes, casseroles, stew, or stir-fried with
veggies. It may also be
eaten with cereals and grains like rice, bread, and pasta. We can call upon other harvesters in case we do not have
an item you want: see list. |

Nutrition Chart.(Indication)
Sea vegetables are virtually fat-free, low
calorie and one of the richest sources of minerals and fiber in the vegetable kingdom. They have ready
access to the abundance of minerals found in the ocean. Coastal peoples all
over the world have prized seaweed as a source of valuable nutrients, primarily
minerals, for eons.
Ancient tradition: the
power of the Earth (plants) to be combined with products of the sea (flexibility), key to a long and healthy
life.
What is the most important food on Planet Earth? A gift from the sea. Such nutrition
is necessary for our journey to optimal health and wellness.
Additionally, negatively charged minerals can help increase the transport and
bio-availability of other foods and supplements.
Seaweed or algae can help to build and sustain the broad
nutritional balance of vitamins, minerals, and vital nutrients on which optimum health and
vitality depends. Seaweed is important in any diet.
The use of depleted soil/pesticides and herbicides
(modern farming) and food processing worsens the imbalance. In fact, seaweed contains 10 to 20 times
the amount of minerals,
trace elements, and vitamins than found in commercially grown land vegetables. Gram for gram,
they are higher in vitamins and minerals than any other class of food. In addition, they have
outstanding nutritional profiles. Essential fatty acids, nucleic acids like RNA
and DNA, and
phyto-chemicals as carotenoids. Recommended use 2 gram (1DR)/day.
Between:
• 10-40 % minerals, Ca, Cl, K, Na, P, Mg, Fe
• Oligo-éléments Zn, Cu, Mn, I, Se,Mo, Cr
• 20-45% protein with a good amino acid profile
• Vitamins beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A), some vitamins ofthe B complex (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, & Folic acid. E and K
• Up to 40% Soluble fiber (agar, carrageenan, &alginate )
• 10-25% carbohydrate (sugars & sugar alcohols)
• 3-9 %Insoluble fiber: cellulose, xylans & others.
• 1-4% fat
• less than 10% water
• 2 % in Lipids, (high in PUFA)
Seaweed is used to help to build and sustain the broad
nutritional balance of vitamins, minerals, and vital nutrients on which optimum health and
vitality depend. They are
low-calorie foods, with a high concentration of minerals, vitamins, proteins (digestible and indigestible),
carbohydrates, and
lipids.
Sea plants are regarded as more potent than land plants because they contain a great number of
organic compounds known as phyto (plant) chemicals. Many of these organic
compounds are necessary, but missing in our modern food supply. This mineral
content of seaweed,
vegetables, and fiber is extraordinary, and lies at the root of many of their reputed healing
properties. The major minerals are instrumental in all kinds of life-sustaining
activities in your body. Although therapeutic seaweed constituents can be
extracted and are available and used in cases of chronic conditions, it is
easier and cheaper to use whole seaweeds, not extracts. Use the seaweed
uncooked if possible. |

Health, Spirituality and Human Consciousness.
In
Traditional Chinese Medicine, Our Bodies and Our Selves Reflect the Natural
World
Think of a world dominated by waves or
vibrations, the universe connected by an underlying fluctuating energy field, a
sea of energy connecting everything and anything, and different from the worldview propagated by science,
politics, and the
establishment.
Here you never act alone. All of our actions affect others and at the
end of the day, or at the end of our life, the only thing any of us really
“has” is our effect upon others.
-
- How we treat
others determines how others treat us
- how others treat
us influences how we see ourselves
- how we see
ourselves determines who we are and essential
People need to be seen as indivisible from their environment.
Consciousness represents
the greatest form of order known to nature, and this order helps us shape and create order
in the world. The
living consciousness is a blueprint
and building block,
not an isolated entity. The consciousness has the power to heal us, to heal the world, to
shape it to be as
we wish it to be.
Reality is created by each of us only by our attention, at the lowest level in
our minds and
matter, where each of us creates the world. We have the ability to extend our own coherence out into our
environment, simply
by the act of wishing to create order.
Communication between Cells and the body.
The brain perceives and records the world and universe essentially as an active
participant and able to communicate
with everything. This is
the interconnection of all beings and things--where we are inseparably
woven into the great web of life, matter, and cosmic space--and our only fundamental truth is
our relationship with it.

Body, cells and molecules. Science uses (QSAR) the key and
lock interaction model where two molecules who match each other structurally
exchange specific (chemical) information. However, due to the low local presence, the statistical
change that it will happen is low. The vibrations of one molecule causes another one to
vibrate to or tune in
(resonance), creating a cascade of electromechanical impulses which
travel near the speed of light. It explains the speed in which emotions like
anger or fear
manifest themselves.
It is now clear that both specific molecules and intermolecular bonds emit at
certain specific frequencies which can be detected far away.
The electromagnetic frequencies used
correspond with frequencies in the audio range and lay between 20 hertz and 20
kilohertz. Replacing
a mineral within a protein with another will lead to different properties and
oscillating properties.
Within Ancient traditions; the power of the earth (plants) to be
combined with products of the sea (flexibility) and variation (spices and herbs), digestion, is the key to a long and
healthy life. In Okinawa
old people did stay healthy and active well after their 100th
birthday. This happened
without science, healthcare,
and food safety.
Here are some pointers:
-
The digestive
system can/will slow down if not properly stimulated, by chewing less,
using soft food, being in a rush, and watching TV. The problems with soft
food and bad eating habits are that it might not challenge the digestive
system needed to break down fibre and
encourage the gut to squeeze it along.
-
A weak gut can
enflame easily from spicy foods, resulting in limits to the variety you
can eat, loss of taste, and the enjoyment of good food.
-
Use a wide
variety of food in the diet, both from a nutritional point of view, but
also to maintain a healthy interest in food. You must eat enough food to
get sufficient minerals and vitamins needed to fight heart disease,
stroke, some cancers, obesity, osteoporosis, and arthritis. Malnutrition
is one of the big problems in the ageing population.
Spirituality and consciousness are very
important too; the main point stressed that life is to be sought by man, not from within himself or in
his own power, but from outside, from Him who emphatically is Life. (God, Spirit, Nature, Consciousness). The alternatives are the man-made/ruled society,
the development of the city, state,
and industrialization, man’s obsession with material goods, and at the end questions
about the value of its foundations, what is best for humanity, sharing values,
and its longevity.
Wellness/relaxation/addiction
The Holistic approach.
The laws of nature, the seasons, natural
cycles, the interconnectedness and dependency of all living beings.
The concept of natural harmony, however, is
missing in modern science. There
is no soul and spirit. Despite advanced technology, knowledge and
science, modern people are becoming increasingly sick, both physically and
mentally, are unhappy and lonely. Problems such as mental stress, anxiety,
depression and nervous debility are common. These problems, which relate to the
mind, have a very negative impact on a person’s life. These days, most of the threats to your health
and wellbeing come
from outside (nearly all
are man-made): living conditions,
stress, malnutrition, pollution (air, water and soil), conflicts, ideology,
politics, exploitation, aggression,
repression, restrictions, corruption, and war.
Your body is an antenna, and your body
can’t receive and comprehend the whole message from Universe unless it contains
all the trace elements of the Universe. Neither can it increase sensibility. It is not the amount in
weight but the
numbers present within the body that are important. To be available within the body of humans
and animals, the minerals and trace elements have to be chelated or in colloidal forms, a
concept known as “bio-availability.”
Another advantage is, using the more complex salts
present in seaweeds, you will have less craving for simple junk food (salt).
The craving for salt, despite the fact that most food are heavily salted with sodium
chloride, home-cooking, restaurant meals, and preserved foods is a strong
indication of potassium deficiency. Potassium is essential for even minimal
nerve and muscle functioning,
cross-membrane transport, for neurotransmitters, and hormones. Our bodies cannot differentiate between
salt (sodium chloride) and the essential potassium chloride. Too much salt
(sodium chloride) is not good and should be avoided. Seaweed and algae are Earth’s last unique
resort and can help us to
reconnect with nature, become whole, satisfied, and healthy again.
Rockweed
Tea, Seasonings and Flavoring, and Salt Replacements
Irish Rockweed is an important ingredient
by the production of slimming tea. In general, this tea is made from rockweed
that has been air- or sun-dried, but it can also be made from fresh seaweed.
Used as flavouring for the vegetarian market,
the ground sea vegetables impart a natural seafood dimension to flavour
profiles. Kelp is one of the seaweeds used to enhance existing flavours without
MSG or other chemicals.
Salt: Seaweed Table Condiment contains
between 35-45% of minerals, low in sodium content and high in potassium. These dried
pieces of specially prepared wild Seakelp or seaweed-wrack have a subtle, nutty
vegetable flavor. Kelps have higher potassium content than other seaweeds.
Alkalinize
Your Diet for Enhanced Health
There is no need to try to eliminate acid-forming
foods just to achieve optimum health. Balance (buffer) it by using seaweed, eating more raw food or other alkaline-type foods. A
diet rich in alkalinizing
plant foods has been
shown to help preserve muscle mass in older men and women. Another cause of
acidity in the body is intense exercise.
Online shop.To take advantage of the healthful—and
tasty—benefits of edible seaweeds, have a look at nearby specialty food stores, gourmet shops, Asian markets, or other natural

Health, Lifestyle and Ageing
To live much longer and in full health has been humanity’s oldest dream. Every culture has cherished practices to offer the possibility of immortality or very long life. Mental and spiritual regimes, elixirs, black magic, diets, arcane sexual practices, and science enlisted to hold death at bay. People from the earliest cultures to the present have tried to stop or at least significantly slow the process of bodily deterioration. The Biological immortality most sought after a life of youthful vigor without physical limitations. To provide a kind of biological immortality can only be achieved if started at an early age. However, people who are born healthy can grow very old and remain in good health. |
